I would firstly like to appologise for the results not being available in the last 2 weeks.

Last week the results were hidden and i wasnt aware so i couldnt get the scores.

This week i was on my way to bowling feeling a little seedy, which turned into violently ill, which meant i turned around and went home.

Anyway, These are the last results until presentation night.

The stopping all stations bowling league hides all league rankings for the last few weeks of the year to create a little suspense and mystery. No one knows whos won what individual awards or where your team ranks on the ladder. Because this is hidden you also cant see the lanedraw so i got hold of a copy and this is who is playing who for the next 3 weeks.

We will also be bowling week 45, Wed Oct 27th but its in the schedule as a positional round. 1 thing i can tell you for sure is that it will NOT! be a positional round, but i can not tell you who you are playing either because its in the computer as a positional round.

There is a $720 prize pool which will payout like this...
1st – $280, 2nd - $140, 3rd - $70, 4th - $60, 5th - $50, 6th - $40, 7th - $30, 8th - $20, 9th - $20 ($10 for the whistle) $720
The masters usually only pays out 3-4 people, but we have never had 36 bowlers before so we are paying out a 1 in 4 chance (9/36)

If you are part of the facebook group, then you would have received, preliminary, unchecked results last friday. There was a clerical error and in the double check we discovered and fixed this error.

3 New FaceBook Bowling Games Just Added, Hyperbowl - Bakugan Bowling and Gutterball 2

I've just added 3 new games to the facebook bowling games list.

Hyperbowl on Facebook is an old game that doesnt translate quite as well as it should on facebook but its definately worth a look if like fantasy style bowling games with obstacles.

Bakugan Bowling on Facebook is just a bit of bowling fun. Its a simple flick its forward game, the bowling ball turns into some kind of bakugan monster as it rolls down the bowling lane, then turns back into a ball when it hits the ten pins.

Gutterball 2 on Facebook is easily the best of the 3 bowling games just added. Random lanes can be played each day. While having very little to do with bowling, its more like a driving game as you steer your ball down the lane.

Below are all the bowling games we have found on facebook and the web so far. If you know of any other bowling games, why not leave us a comment. There are many other download games we know of, but what we are looking for is online play.

Tenpin Bowling Show Goes Digital Tonight.

Channel 31 went digital ("FINALLY!") today which means that the tenpin bowling show thats on every friday night at 8:30 has gone digital with it!. You may need to re - tune your digital tv to find the new station. Tune in tonight to get all the latest news, tenpin tournaments and tenpin gossip.

New Bowling Tournament

Bowling Big Brother Starts next week May 26th.

This is a unique tournament in that the longer you play, the more chance you have to win, but the more you pay.

Average cost of entry to this tournament will be $6 (over 5 weeks)

It starts off with all entering bowlers paying a $2 entry fee for the first week. The 2 bowlers with the lowest score will be evicted (knocked out of the tournament). From then on in it will be $1 a week for the remaining bowlers to stay in the competition.

The prize will be 50% of entry fees with the other 50% going towards the prize fund.
Based on 20 players, this bowling tournament would run for a maximum of 10 weeks, with a maximum cost to the bowler being $11. ( the 2 finalists will have paid $11 over 10 weeks but 1 of them will walk away with a $54 profit.)

The prize money based on only 20 bowlers will be $65. As in the tv show big brother, there can be only 1 winner.

In the event of more than 20 bowlers, to keep the tournament down to 10 weeks, we will have triple evictions some weeks and doubles on others. We will announce a triple at the start of the night, if not, assume its a double. The first week will be a double eviction. Triple evictions will be later in the tournament as the later we do it, the longer people stay in, and the more money goes to the prize fund. We run these fund raiser tournaments to keep it fun but also to put some “fun money” into the kitty for presentation night. (All money raised from any tournament goes back into the league except for the station masters which puts all money back into the tournaments prize payouts).

Rules are simple.
Lowest 2 / 3 bowlers of the week including their handicaps will be eliminated.
Failure to Attend or prebowl is an instant eviction.
Failure to pay on a week will also result in an eviction.
Any bowler may pull out at any time, this will reduce the evictions for the week.

Please read this carefully and direct any questions to Jason De Kruif
Jason D reserves the right to change the rules to keep them fair if necessary.
Jason D also reserves the right to change the rules to make it a bit more fun. Example, highest scoring bowler from previous week, may be given immunity and not be evicted the following week. Should a bowler with immunity fall into eviction the following week, The 3rd or 4th lowest bowler would take their place and be evicted. This is just an example, but if we change 1 rule, others might need changing also, but we would hope these little changes make the game a little more interesting and fun for the participants, which is what its all about.
If any immunities are given etc, you will still be required to pay your weekly $1

Any rule change will be in the interest of fun or fairness.

(The big brother tournament will run from week 23 to week 32, leaving Jason D with a few weeks break before the one and only, non fund raising, full on serious, high prize money 10 week tournament, THE STATION MASTERS! The masters “usually” has payouts like, 1st $300 2nd $150 3rd $75 4th 5th & 6th also getting $25. This like all tournaments is dependant on participants.)

Looks like the girls won round 1 but we are going to run it all over again starting next week. Remember, its $5 to qualify, top 8 from each gender go through, then its knockouts.

B.O.T.S Finals are tonight!

The finals are here. The battle between Trish and Alex and the winner of the B.O.T.S tournament will be decided tonight.

Alex made it to the finals with 3 very narrow wins of 10, 10 and 20 pins.
Patricia had an easy start with a forfeit but then won her next game by 31 and her last game by 159.

Alex has had a tounament pinfall of 1899 (with handicap)
Patricia has had a tournament pinfall of 1760 (with handicap)

Alex has a league average of 169
Patricia has a league average of 144

Its anyones game but i think on recent form, Patricia is the one to look out for but on statistics you would have to give it to Alex with a very close win.

Dunn Sheild Qualifying

At the moment you can qualify for Dunn shield with your league scores. It costs $5 to qualify and the top 10 Male and 10 female will roll off to represent Amf Moorabbin in the Dunn Sheild Tournament.

Out of the 10 bowlers (male and female) the top 7 will qualify (and the 8th will become a reserve) to compete in the Dunn Sheild tournament against all other amf centres.

The tournament runs for an entire weekend May 29th / 30th and you will have to bowl against all other centres.

AMF Tournament - Moorabbin

Moorabbin Bowl triplex - Open to all moorabbin league bowlers.

A triplex game is made up of 3 normal games of bowling. A bowler bowls 3 games and then creates a 4th game (a triplex) by using the best score from each frame over the 3 games.

For example. If you bowled a 9 - (9 miss) in the first frame of the first game, a X (Strike) in the first frame of the second game and a 9 / (9 spare) in the first frame of the third game, you would use the strike in the first frame of the triplex game. You just take the best score from each frame and create a fourth game.

Qualify with your league games now for $3.

Finals are Sunday April 18th, Check in is 9:30 am
$35 for 6 games.

Qualifying over for the B.O.T.S Bowling tournament

Qualifying is over for the B.O.T.S bowling tournament.
8 women played which meant all 8 have qualified.
15 Men played with 8 qualifying and 7 of us missing out.

Highest qualifiers were Teresa C (604 with handicap) for the women and Jamie M (628 with handicap) for the men.
Sympathy to Jeff M and Michael B who were both tied on 577, both missing out on qualifying by 2 pins.

Some quick stats..
The boys 8 qualifiers knocked over 4822 pins and the girls 8 with 4534.
Top 3 qualifiers were all men with Jamie M, Alex L and Joe B representing.

The Quarter finals start this week, 4 bowlers from each pool will go onto the semi finals for their pool. Remember, the grand final is the winner from each pool and will decided the battle of the sexes.

This section will contain tenpin bowling games with trials that you can download to your pc and test out.

We have added 3 bowling game downloads,
Elf Bowling - the last insult,Elf Bowling - Hawaiin Vacation and Way To Go Bowling.

All 3 games let you try them out for an hour so have a go! Try these Tenpin games out. I highly recommend elf bowling, its good for a laugh as well as good fun.

We will review these games soon.

Bowling Terms, a bowlers glossary 2

In this part of the bowling terms glossary we will discuss the bowling lanes themselves and the names of the various parts.

Alley - Often called the lane, the alley is the lane in which you bowl the ball.

Approach - This is the area in front of the lane. The area where you approach the lane to bowl the bowling ball.

Arrows - The arrows are approximately 8 to 10 feet down the lane. There are 7 arrows in total and the arrows are used as a guide for aiming. Many people beleive its easier to aim at something 8 to 10 feet away than it is the headpin (see headpin further down) which is 60 feet away from the foul line. (see foul line further down)

Ball return - The ball return is the machine between 2 lanes that returns the ball to you.

Console - The console is usually behind the ball return and is where names and score changes can be entered.

Foul Line - The foul line is the same as in many sports (long jump, javelin etc) and is the point at which you can not cross on the approach or the ball you have bowled will be deemed a foul.

Gutter - This is the 2 channels that run down either side of a bowling alley or lane. The gutter will run the ball to the end of the lane so it can be returned. You get no score for bowling a gutter ball.

Headpin - This is the front pin in a rack (see rack further down) of bowling pins. The number 1 pin.

House - The house is the centre you are bowling in. Amf Moorabbin is the house our league bowls in. I find lanes 7 and 8 are the best in the house!

Kickbacks - The kickbacks are the walls that house the rack of pins. The kickbacks are used to keep the pins from flying any and everywhere and are also used to "kickback" pins when aiming at difficult spares.

Kingpin - The kingpin is the number 5 pin and is in the centre of the rack.

Lane - Same as the alley, its the surface where you roll the ball at the pins.

Oil - Bowling lanes have a treatment/ dressing of conditioner that allows spin bowlers to spin through the oil or dressing and grip at the end of the lane.

Pin Deck - This is the position on the lane where the rack is placed. (see rack further down)

Rack - A rack is the complete ten pins in position at the end of the lane.

Sweep - The sweep is the bar that comes down to sweep away remaining pins.

Super KingPin Bowling on Facebook - Review

Another of the social network bowling games but probably the newest.

Super kingpin bowling is a lightning fast bowling game. Its a "meter" style bowling game meaning its about stopping arrows or timing the clicking of the button. The real difference with Super kingpin bowling from other bowling "meter" games is that it only lasts 4 frames instead of the usual 10, and it has a time bonus on it so the quicker and more successfull you bowl the 4 frames the better and higher your score is.

I've been trying to get better and quicker at this game and i am currently ranked 143rd in the world (lol) with an 872 score.

Super kingpin bowling is very simple to play as are most "metered" games. Just place the ball in a starting position and click, then click when the arrow is pointing in the right place. Thats it, just 2 clicks.

Theres a couple there i would love to try myself but something says i would more than likely get into trouble if i put a chair on the bowling lane and bowled a ball over the top of it. Or, if i put a jump ramp on the alley and bowled a ball up it.

DONT GET ANY IDEAS! THESE WILL MOST LIKELY ONLY GET YOU IN TROUBLE! ( lol ).

Two Handed Bowling - The Revolution

If you haven't heard about two handed bowling yet, you probably dont watch any bowling on tv or go to any tournaments.

It looks a little like a rugby pass and generates revolutions on the ball like you wouldnt beleive. Its been pioneered by Jason Belmonte (Australian) and Osku Palermaa (Finland) and both bowlers have almost identical stories as to why they bowl with two hands. In short, they both started bowling young and found the balls too heavy to use one hand.

Recently this style has boomed with the entry of Jason (Hollywood) Belmonte into the U.S PBA circuit and has exposed him and his style to millions of bowlers world wide. Many up and coming bowlers are now learning to bowl two handed style because of the velocity and the revolutions on the ball. A standard hook bowler might generate 300 - 400 revolutions on the ball but these two handed bowlers are generating almost 600 revolutions on the ball. This high "rev rate" can produce pin reaction like you have never seen before in both positive and negative forms.

One of the more unique things about this bowling style is the ball. It doesnt have a thumb hole. Two handed bowlers only put their fingers into the ball and not their thumbs which is part of why they can generate so many revs. The other reason they generate so many more revs is because they are using two hands to turn the ball. This thumbless two hand style is far more efficient for turning a ball fast and is the reason why this style is being looked at again and again and is changing / revolutionising the game of ten pin bowling.

Bowling Terms, a bowlers glossary

Theres tons of bowling lingo out there with some terms more mainstream and well known than others.

I will create a bit of a series of bowling terms and eventually we will have a bowling glossary with more, if not all the bowling terms.

In this post we are going to cover the names of the formations of pins that are sometimes left.

Split - A split is where you have to knock over 2 or more pins that are not standing together. A split requires a deflection of a pin or ball to remove all remaining pins.

Baby Split - The baby split is when a 2 and 7 pin (left side) or the 3 and 10 (right side are left. More accuratley picked up by bouncing the ball off the "inside" pin onto the outer pin and less commonly picked up by deflecting the inner pin onto the outer.

Bed Posts, Goal Posts or 7-10 Split - Probably the hardest split to pick up. This is where only the 7 and 10 pin are left (the 2 opposite corner pins). This split is usually picked up with a lot of luck and usually requires the pin to bounce off the side or back of the lane. I heard a rumour recently, that the pin you should aim for is the 7 pin if on the left lane on a pair of lanes or the 10 pin on the right. The theory is that the 2 lanes are usually divided by the ball return and are'nt as solid as the outer walls (kickbacks) of a pair of lanes. (make of that what you will!).

Big four - This is where the 4,6,7 and 10 pins are left. A very difficult shot but more makable than the bed post (7-10) split because the inside pins (the 4 and 6) can be chipped across to collect the opposite 2 pins.

Bucket - The bucket can be left in 2 ways. On the left its the 2,4,5 and 8 pins and on the right its the 3,5,6 and 9 pins. Not a split, these a fairly easy to pickup with a good straight ball through the middle.

Christmas Tree - The christmas tree is a more makable split but not often left. Its when the 2,7 and 10 pins are left (for left handed bowlers) and the 3,7 and 10 pins are left by a right handed bowler. This shot is made with both a pin and ball deflection by hitting the 2 or 3 pin on the outside, with the pin deflecting onto the opposite corner and the ball carrying into the remaining pin.

Clothesline or Picket Fence - This is when a line of pins are left running from the front to the corner. On the left its the 1,2,4 and 7 pins and on the right its the 1,3,6,10 pins. More commonly picked up by running the ball down the line (so to speak) but often picked up by hitting the head pin through the remaining pins.

Grandmas Teeth - Grandmas teeth is a variety of splits left where there are various gaps (splits) left between the pins. Its usually means there is more than 1 split left left on the lane and its extrememly difficult to pickup. Its very unlucky to leave grandmas teeth and is usually left by a bowler with alot of revs (spin) on the ball that enters the rack (all ten pins is a rack) at an awkward angle through the revs (spin) on the ball.

Kingpin - The king pin is the 5 pin. The single pin at the centre of them all.

Sleeper, Mother in Law - A sleeper is a pin that is hidden directly behind another pin. The 1 and 5 pins, the 2 and 8 pins, and the 3 and 9 pins are all example of a sleeper or mother in law with the higher numbered pins being directly behind the lower. Picked up with a good straight ball or by hooking heavily into the front pin.

Washout - A washout is when the head pin (1) is missed and all pins to one side are removed except the corner pin. There are many different "washouts" but the more common washout for right handers is leaving the 1,2,4 and 10 pins behind, or the 1,3,6 and 7 pins for left handers. A washout is not considered a split because the headpin (1) still remains.

If your not into social networking sites and you like playing bowling games, you should be.

Facebook is a great resource for playing online bowling games as well as other sporting games. Bowling buddies is about the best online bowling game there is. Not only does it have many realisms to real bowling but it includes your friends and family in the fun as well. Bowling buddies uses your facebook friends for challenges and its a lot like pre-bowling where as you bowl a game, and send it to your friend to try and beat. Your win loss records are recorded as well as high your scores so you can always see whos been doing well and who your main competition is.

When i first got on facebook, i could not leave bowling buddies alone. I loved it and loved that it had set all the goals to achieve so even when i wasnt challenging a friend i could try and earn trophies.

If you have not tried social networking sites like facebook and playing games against your friends and family online, perhaps now is the time to try facebook and bowling buddies. Its just the tip of the iceberg as far as facebook games are concerned.

Battle of the Sexes Bowling Tournament.

The “Battle Of The Sexes” Bowling tournament.
Qualifying will be on the 10th of March 2010.

To begin with, the first week will be qualifying.
The top 8 bowlers (8 male and 8 female) series scores, including handicap will be placed into a pool of their gender.

Each week, participants will not know who they are playing in their pool until the night. These will be pulled out of a hat by Jason (at home to save time) to decide who plays who prior to bowling. Once you have lost you will be knocked out and the winner will go onto the next round.

When both male and female pools are decided, the 2 sexes will play off to decide the Battle.

Qualifying will cost $5 and all proceeds will go towards the league prize fund.
Prizes will be paid to the 2 finalists. This ensures a prize for each gender.
Prizes will be 50% of entry fees (other 50% goes to prize fund) where the winner will get 3 shares and the runner up will get 2. Based on 20 entries the winner will receive $30 and the runner up $20.
(The last AMF tournament I entered cost me $35 and I won $100 (was a 9 no tap and thats only 3 times what I paid to enter) this tournament is offering 6 times your entrance fee.)

In the event of absence, you will automatically be eliminated. Its up to you to turn up if you enter.
You can prebowl for this event.
In the event that there are not enough entries to make 8 for a gender, all entrants will qualify for that pool. If the numbers are odd, the 4 highest series scores including handicap will go onto the next round.
If both bowlers forfeit by not turning up or prebowling. They will both forfeit and no longer be in the tournament. The odd bowler in the next round will need to bowl their series average to continue.

This fundraising tournament is run by league president Jason. You may refer any questions you have to Jason. Last year Jason ran fundraisers and that money went towards door prizes and fun stuff at presentation. Jason also reserves the right to amend any rules to keep the tournament fair should any exploitation of, or error in the rules be discovered.

Hope you have a go and represent your sex because we all know that boys are better!! (lol)

Depending on the success of this Battle of the sexes bowling tournament, there may be extra rounds (tournaments) with a final Battle commencing between the winners of the tournaments to really decide, without question, which gender has the better bowlers!

Bowling Max - Freeware

I love little games like this one. No install, small download, just good clean fun that when your finished with you just delete. Just download and play, thats all there is to it. No install, just play!.

Bowling max is made by the same author as bowling blast. It a "meter" style bowling game where by stopping various meters, you determine the speed, spin and aim of the ball. I have found it extremely hard to repeat 12 times to get a perfect game but i have managed a 222.

This game is well worth a look, is simple ten pin bowling, absolutely freeware and to repeat for the 3rd time, no install so it leave your pc totally clean.

This bowling Video is from our ten pin bowling fun night. Instead of uploading a lot of bowling videos, we decided to join them up into one.

In the movie clip you will spot many of our league bowlers demonstrating their bowling style. Theres many different bowling styles and there is no "wrong way" to bowl. If you can knock down all ten pins consistantly then thats the style you should be using.

Current styles are starting to swing toward 2 handed bowling. Bowlers like Jason Belmonte and Osku Palermaa have revolutionised the sport with their two handed bowling style. Although difficult to master, these proffessional bowlers have made many others stop and take noticed of the spin on the ball and the velocity they are hitting the pins with.

We're not that good, as you can see in this bowling movie. We just love bowling and think you might to if you give it a try.

It was a great year of making new friends and bowling in the friendliest league. We already have some new teams starting in the new season which is Nov 18th 2009, so if you have any interest at all in trying out league bowling for free or joining a bowling league, keep that date in mind. Remember that presentation is on the 4th November, fun night on the 11th and reformation on the 18th.

OUR LEAGUE IS REFORMING ON THE 18TH NOV,
We're looking for new bowlers to start the season with. We bowl at Moorabbin Amf, 8:30 pm Wednesday night. We are finished by 9:30. The cost is $22 (which is $17 for lane fees and $5 prize fund) each week. The centre is licensed and its absolutely ok to have a few while bowling. Come down and have a free try (3 games on the house!) on the 11th of November which is our fun night. Go on! Why not ?

Bit of league history - Stopping all stations, what a weird name for a bowling league ?

Truth be told, it is a little strange but the story goes like this.

There once was a league ( that no longer exists) called EXPRESS doubles. Many of the bowlers in SAS were members of express (including myself). A constitution meeting was held and a few decissions were made not in the best interests of the league. A fair percentage of the league decided to break away and start their own league. They no longer bowled on monday nights, they bowled on wednesdays and they were no longer express, so they must be stopping all stations.

True story of where the name came from. We've survived 4 years with an average of 30+ bowlers (15 teams of two). Express is now called express highway and is a singles league with about 8 bowlers. Sas hold no grudge but it was a mistake to take the fun out of the league and make it all about the top teams being the only ones to get money.

Sas pays money to every bowler at the end of a season. This was important to us and always will be. Our league is about bowling and competition for fun. No one walks away empty handed.

If your not a member of our league yet, you WILL NOT find a league more dedicated to bowling being about fun, competition and friendships than Stopping All Stations. It was our reason for creation.

New Start time for League Bowling

Its Official,
The S.A.S bowling league is now going to start at 8:30pm, a half hour earlier, due to a vacancy created by another league.

Great news for us, we get to start earlier and with any luck we will becoming slightly more appealing in that we start and finish earlier. On most nights we are done by 9:30 now, leaving plenty of time to get some sleep.
